Websters defines love as: a (1) : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties (2) : attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3) : affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests Is that love to you? I mean I LOVE hot dogs and it doesn't fit that description (although I once thought I heard a Nathan's dog tell me I was the perfect man) so I'm pretty sure the definition is only partially accurate. What about love at first sight? What about love before you say a word, know a personality or even get more than a fleeting glimpse? Love before respect, before becoming physical and love before a detailed background check on Google. Do you think it exists? Love requires faith and we all know the only thing that nobody can argue with or discount is our ability to have faith. We must believe in something that is greater than what we know, greater than perhaps what is rational and sometimes greater than what is logical. I know, it sounds like I'm talking about a religious belief, but doesn't love, when it's right, almost feel beyond this World? It's happened to me so I can tell you that you can learn to love, fall in love or just instantly BE in love. That instant stuff is scary but it is by far the most intense and, while no doubt has the promise of what we all want and desire, is fraught with self or mutual doubt that can sour it before it even begins. Why am I writing this today? Why oh why am I taking on such a topic that has burned so many of us before? Love is the biggest blessing and for many has been the greatest curse so I thought it was time to just impart one thought: No matter how love gets to you and no matter how bad it's treated you in the past, embrace it like it's the first time. Tear down the walls that pain has built, shine up that amazing smile and plunge in again and again until you get one that lasts forever. Remember the only thing worse than to love and fail is to have never loved at all. Peace, love and out.
